6.30pm St Georges Hall dominates Lime Street. The foundation stone was laid on Queen Victoria's coronation day 28th June 1838. She declared upon visiting in 1851 "It is worthy of ancient Athens, it is approached by a splendid flight of steps...the interior is quite unfinished but will be fine, the taste so good and pure"'. The Great Hall measures 169ft long, 74ft wide, with an 84ft vaulted ceiling. Minton designed and created the floor tiles and Charles Cockrell designed the bronze doors. The building contains two courtrooms, one civil, one criminal where Gilbert of Gilbert and Sullivan fame practised. Steve Binns, City of Liverpool Community historian tour guide will lead a tour of the courts before the AUKML reception. The gala conference dinner will be held back at the Holiday Inn, in the Liverpool suite. Followed by after dinner speaker John Bishop, one time salesman and round the world cyclist, now one of the stars on the stand up comedy circuit. Sunday 3rd March 2002
